ADVANCED GRAVEL

Hard-fired red clay substrate designed for long-term use.
ADVANCED GRAVEL VULCAN RED is made from hard-fired red clay, offering greater resistance to breakdown compared to conventional substrates and ensuring long-lasting durability.
Like typical aquarium soil, it also has adsorption properties that help stabilize pH at a slightly acidic level in soft water, creating water conditions suitable for a wide variety of ornamental fish.

Keeps water clear over the long term.
Like Soil, it has an adsorbent effect that helps maintain clear water for long periods. Additionally, its light brown color brightens the entire aquarium, making the fish and aquatic plants stand out even more.

Features
VULCAN RED is a fired, hard-baked Akadama clay substrate designed for long-term use.
While standard aquascape soil is generally recommended to be replaced around once every year, this product retains its structure for a longer period and does not break down as easily. In a three-month test with bottom-dwelling loaches, no particle breakdown was observed.
Furthermore, like conventional aquascape soil, it helps lowers the pH and keeps it with in an approximate range of 6.0 to 7.0. This helps maintaining slightly acidic water conditions suitable for keeping many ornamental fish and aquatic plants.

USE PROCEDURE 1
[When Using a Undergravel Filter]
Install the undergravel filter in the aquarium.
*If you are using a sponge filter or an internal filter, install it after adding the substrate.

USE PROCEDURE 2
Before filling the tank with water, add the substrate without rinsing it.
Use a spatula or similar tool to spread the substrate evenly.

USE PROCEDURE 3
Place a tray or similar container on the top of the soil and slowly add water into the tank to prevent the soil from disturbed.
*Since this product is made from natural materials, small pieces of plant matter may float to the surface.
This does not affect water quality, but if it bothers you, please remove it with a net or similar tool before use.

USE PROCEDURE 4
Install the heater and fluorescent lights, and you’re all set.
Recommended volume
| 30cm tank(approx. 12L) | 3L |
| 45cm tank(approx. 35L) | 6~8L |
| 60cm tank(approx. 57L) | 8~11L |
* Please seal any remaining soil to prevent it from drying out. Once it dries out, the granules will break down and cause cloudiness.
Cautions
Before using this product, be sure to read the instructions below carefully and ensure you understand the correct method of use. Never use this product if you are unsure of the correct method of use.
This product is designed for keeping and raising tropical fish and other aquatic life. Improper use for purposes other than its intended may result in personal injury or property damage. Please be sure to use this product only as intended.
- ADVANCED GRAVEL Vulcan Red is intended for ornamental fish. Do not use it for any other purpose.
- ADVANCED GRAVEL Vulcan Red can lower pH and KH by itself. Do not combine with other aquarium gravels as well as water conditioners, filtering media, etc.
- ADVANCED GRAVEL Vulcan Red does not contain nutrients to aid aquatic plant growth or bacteria to assist filtration.
- We are not responsible for illness or death of aquatic life, or for aquatic plants withering. Please use with this understanding.
- Keep out of reach of children and use or store in a safe place.
Maintenance
Routine Maintenance
To keep your tropical fish and aquatic plants healthy, be sure to perform regular water changes. To help prevent algae growth, it is effective to introduce algae-eating species into the tank beforehand.
If dirt builds up on the bottom of your tank and the water becomes cloudy…
A clogged substrate can reduce filtration efficiency and cause the water to become cloudy, which in turn can lead to disease in fish and plants. Please clean the substrate.

Using a commercially available gravel cleaner or a homemade cleaner made from a plastic bottle (as shown in Photo 1), suck out the impurities and broken-down substrate that have trapped at the bottom of the tank along with the water, using just enough suction to avoid dislodging the substrate (adjust the pressure with your finger as shown in Photo 2) (Photo 3).
If the water still appears cloudy or the pH is not dropping as it should, add a small amount of new soil. If you have planted aquatic plants, remove them all before cleaning.
Q&A
- .What type of filter is suitable?
-
Basically, all types of filters can be used without any issues, including undergravel filters, sponge filters, top filters, external (canister) filters, and internal filters.
- .What are organic acids?
-
Also known as humic acid or fulvic acid, these are acidic, amorphous high-molecular organic substances that are part of humic substances (decomposed organic matter), formed as the final products of the microbial decomposition of plants and other materials. These organic acids help lower pH and water hardness.
- .Does it contain nutrients (fertilizer)? Can aquatic plants grow?
-
Phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen are essential nutrients for plants. However, to suppress algae growth, excessive phosphorus and nitrogen are removed, and only the appropriate amount of nutrients necessary for aquatic plants is added during our manufacturing process.
- .How often should it be replaced?
-
Compared to other products, this product has a more durable structure. With proper maintenance, it can be used for a long period of time.
- .Is it safe to use chemicals (medication)?
-
As the soil also absorbs chemicals, we recommend avoiding their use whenever possible. Instead, we suggest moving only the affected fish to a separate treatment tank for medication. Some chemicals may affect aquatic plants and shrimp, so please consult with store staff and use them with caution.
